Toyota vs Toyoda

Did you know that Toyota Motor Company was founded by a family with a last name of Toyoda? Why didn’t they named their company Toyoda? Why did they decide to name it Toyota instead?

Well, in World Campus – Japan we, as you know, learn something new everyday… Here is the reason why they did what they did…

In Katagana (Japanese Writing) the word TOYOTA takes eight brush strokes to write while the word TOYODA takes ten. The number eight in Japanese culture is consider a number of luck, so the family decided to call the company TOYOTA instead of TOYODA.
